Job summary

Apex Companies, LLC is seeking a Water/Wastewater Operator (Treatment Plant & Field Services) to join our growing team. This role supports operations, maintenance, and compliance across facilities and field sites, with a remote work setup and requirement to reside in or relocate to the Somerset, PA area.

The ideal candidate has prior water/wastewater experience, a PA license or the ability to obtain within a year, and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in water or wastewater plant operations preferred.
• PA Water/Wastewater Operator License or ability to obtain within one year.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and chemical feed systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting mechanical/electrical equipment.
• Strong understanding of plant operations, distribution systems, and lift stations.
• Ability to monitor performance, interpret data, and identify issues in real time.
• Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, and state environmental standards.
• Experience with CMMS/SCADA or similar software.
• Strong mechanical aptitude; ability to work independently in the field.
• Valid driver’s license; clean driving record.
• Physically able for outdoor work; lifting, climbing in varying weather.
• Reside near Somerset, PA or willing to relocate to Somerset, PA.
• Sponsorship not available now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Travel to client sites to perform evaluations of water and wastewater facilities and related infrastructure.
• Monitor and evaluate treatment system performance and process control systems.
• Collect, test, and analyze samples; interpret results for compliance.
• Review and optimize treatment processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on systems and equipment.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical/electrical components like pumps and valves.
• Monitor conditions, identify issues, and respond to alarms and failures.
• Maintain accurate operational data and logs; prepare written reports.
• Assist with startups, inspections, and routine operations.
• Coordinate materials, spare parts, and equipment for maintenance.
• Operate company vehicles safely per policies.
• Ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, and state standards.
• Follow health and safety procedures and use PPE.
• Collaborate with team and clients on operational improvements.
