Job summary

American Water is seeking a Field Operations Technician to execute field service duties related to water distribution systems. The role involves installation, maintenance, and repair tasks in various environments, with travel to local worksites as needed.

The position requires basic mechanical skills, safety awareness, and the ability to work with meters, valves, and related infrastructure, often in confined spaces and outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Technical school coursework in industrial/mechanical/electrical systems preferred.
• 0-2 years’ experience in mechanical, industrial, or utility work.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate company vehicles and equipment to perform field service duties.
• Break pavement and excavate around valves and curb boxes; position pipes and appurtenances.
• Tap into pressurized mains, install clamps, connect service piping, and operate valves and hydrants.
• Operate boring equipment for line installation and repair activities.
• Record field data, meters, and observations accurately using maps and system records.
• Read meters per daily schedules and perform meter readings in service area.
