Job summary

American States Utility Services, Inc. seeks a field technician to maintain water and wastewater systems on military installations across the United States.

You will inspect, repair, and operate mains, meters, hydrants, sewer lines, lift stations, and related assets to ensure safe, compliant service and prompt outage response. The role involves reading blueprints, interpreting technical documents, coordinating with customers, and performing preventive maintenance on heavy equipment.

Qualifications

  • Must possess knowledge and comprehension of safety practices for general construction and handling of all materials used in water and wastewater system operations, to include liquids and chemicals, confined space entry, electrical safety.
  • General knowledge of water and wastewater system operations, control settings, and plant/lift station operations.
  • Clear communication in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Strong customer service skills to interact with the public professionally.
  • Ability to communicate with customers to resolve issues and concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, performs activities related to water and wastewater system maintenance, including water quality and water supply.
  • Inspects, repairs, replaces, tests and certifies water mains, services, meters, hydrants, backflow devices and related assets.
  • Inspects, repairs, replaces sewer lines, lifts stations; operates video equipment to identify deficiencies.
  • Responds to service orders, marks infrastructure, and notifies customers of outages.
  • Performs customer support and interacts with the public professionally.
  • Reads meters and interprets technical documents, blueprints, maps and specs.
  • Operates heavy machinery and performs preventive maintenance as needed.
  • May perform routine sampling of water and wastewater, and assist with system flushing or spill response programs.
