Job summary

McMillen, Inc. designs and builds solutions in water resources, seeking a Structural Project Engineer with 5–10 years of experience. The role covers dams, hydropower, fisheries, and other civil infrastructure, with opportunities to influence projects from feasibility to commissioning.

The candidate will work in an employee-owned firm with a focus on problem solving, continuous learning, and client-focused outcomes. Travel up to 15% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited University.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience as a Structural Engineer
  • P.E. or P.Eng. licensure a plus.
  • Experience with water resource infrastructure including fishery related projects, hydropower, dams, water conveyance, storm water networks, heavy grading, water treatment, spillways, and pump stations
  • Experience with FEA modeling software for linear and non-linear structural analysis. ABAQUS or ANSYS/LS DYNA is a plus.
  • Experience with seismic loads analysis methods including coefficient methods, response spectrum, and time history methods
  • Knowledge of ASCE7, ACI 318/350, AISC 360/341 and related standards
  • Familiarity with Federal Agency codes (FERC, USACE, USBR)
  • Strong communication, technical and analytical skills
  • Travel up to 15% of time is required to project sites and client locations.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Design Documentation Reports, Technical Memorandums and other technical reports.
  • Evaluate, select and apply advanced structural design techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Perform structural computations and analysis using hand calculations and design software.
  • Develop project details and drawings by hand drafting or CAD software.
  • Edit project specifications and assist with the Project Manual.
  • Provide services during construction including submittal review and on-site inspections.
  • Develop FEA models and perform linear and non-linear analysis; present results to clients.
  • Evaluate and manage planning, design and construction support services.
  • Collect and analyze field data and as-built plans to identify design criteria.
  • Provide mentorship to other engineering staff.
