Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to welcome, engage, and support volunteers throughout their experience at the hospital. The role requires strong organization, people focus, and passion for bringing individuals together to serve a meaningful mission.

You will manage day-to-day operations of the Volunteer Department, supervise intake and training, coordinate with departments, and develop recognition and volunteer development programs to ensure a positive volunteer experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, personnel or business management, communications or health related field required.
• 1–2 years of experience in volunteer management or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planning and implementation of the teen volunteer program.
• Maintain coverage of the Volunteer Department ensuring phones are answered and visitors are greeted.
• Liaise with hospital departments to harmonize volunteers and staff.
• Arrange orientation and training of new volunteers.
• Evaluate volunteer performance on an annual basis.
• Screen and interview potential volunteers for intake.
• Ensure volunteers demonstrate required competencies for assignments.
• Support recruitment and retention programs for volunteers.
