Job summary

NYC Pride in New York, NY is seeking a Volunteer Manager to oversee a portfolio of over 1,000 volunteers across year-round events and programs. You will lead recruitment, training, management, and retention, collaborating with all departments to support NYC Pride’s mission and inclusive community.

The role requires evening availability for events, strong organizational and people skills, and a commitment to LGBTQIA+ causes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of experience in volunteer management, human resources, or recruiting (or equivalent experience).
• Experience working with large-scale events and managing diverse teams.
• Proven ability to develop training materials and conduct team or volunteer training.
• Strong communication and public speaking skills, with frequent interaction with volunteers, sponsors, and community members.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in fast-paced environments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Dropbox, Eventbrite (or similar), and CRM’s
• Multilingual candidates and individuals with a commitment to LGBTQIA+ community and social justice causes are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee portfolio of volunteers, securing over 1,000 volunteers annually for various events.
• Develop strategies and tactics to recruit, engage, and retain the volunteers.
• Identifying new opportunities to strengthen partnerships with the community, universities, corporate ERGs, volunteer organizations, and various external institutions.
• Cultivate and steward relationships with volunteers, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteer-related inquiries, assignments, and concerns.
• Manage the Community Working Grants program, including recruitment, application review, training, placement, and grant disbursement, with support from the team.
• Design and maintain comprehensive training materials and presentations to prepare volunteers for their assigned roles.
• Organize training sessions, both in-person and online, ensuring accessibility and efficiency.
• Develop and enforce volunteer program policies and procedures.
• Assess event volunteer needs and coordinate schedules across multiple events.
• Support on-site event operations, ensuring volunteers are effectively managed and supported during events.
• Implement consistent check-in and registration processes for day-of volunteers.
• Maintain accurate volunteer data, participation, schedules, and communications.
• Track and report volunteer hours and contributions, integrating this data into broader organizational reports.
• Regularly evaluate volunteer performance and solicit feedback to improve future programs.
• Provide monthly reports of volunteer activities to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
• Manage and allocate budgets for volunteer operations, including training, resources, and appreciation events.
• Oversee the procurement of identifying apparel and supplies for volunteers.
• Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events, including the annual ‘Volunteer Thank You Reception’
