Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to oversee recruitment, screening, orientation, training, and retention of hospital volunteers at Jacobs Medical Center. You will serve as the liaison for volunteers, staff, patients, and community members, interviewing, onboarding and supporting volunteers across shifts.

The role emphasizes interviewing, onboarding, ongoing volunteer support, and reporting to ensure program effectiveness, with a focus on building a strong volunteer

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree in a related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
• 5+ years coordinating volunteer activity or HR or large multi-step coordination.
• Strong experience in volunteer services and program management best practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to engage with team members of all levels.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with UC San Diego Health team, community members, and volunteers.
• Proven initiative and problem-solving skills to respond to a variety of situations and initiate process improvements.
• Strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple and competing responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Recruiting, interviewing, onboarding and training volunteers
• Providing regular communication to volunteers
• Building positive relationships with stakeholders and volunteers
• Utilizing volunteer database for reporting and compliance
• Planning, establishing and implementing processes for evaluating the impact of the volunteer program
• Building a strong sense of community among the volunteers and communicating with volunteer applicants
• Collaborating with colleagues and Director on program growth
• The Department of Volunteer Services is part of the Office of Experience Transformation at UC San Diego Health.
