Job summary

Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Technician for the VMI Museum System. You will greet visitors, sell merchandise and tour tickets in the museum stores, restock merchandise, and assist with opening/closing tasks and cash reports.

You will provide basic orientation for visitors, follow routine procedures, enforce policies, and maintain a neat appearance. Prior museum experience is a plus but not required; customer service skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in retail sales or guest services is a plus but not required.
• Basic computer skills and ability to handle money.
• Ability to operate a cash register and count cash.

VMI is accepting applications for a part-time Visitor Services Technician for the VMI Museum System.

Job Duties:

• Work in the VMI Museum and Jackson House Museum stores as a clerk greeting visitors, selling merchandise and tour tickets.
• Restock merchandise as needed.
• Assist in routine museum operations, including opening/closing, end of day cash reports, and answering the telephone.
• Provide basic orientation for visitors.
• Other duties as directed by the Assistant Museum Store Manager.
• Neat, businesslike appearance.
• Alertness, sensitivity to the needs and interests of museum visitors and store customers.
• Promptness, reliability, maturity, and sound judgment.
• Ability to follow routine procedures and to enforce policies.
• Basic knowledge of computer and POS.
• Basic knowledge of handling and counting money.
• Retail sales, customer service and or museum experience a plus but not required.
