Job summary

AEG Vision in San Francisco is seeking an Optical Consultant to work alongside Optometrists, supporting patient care and education. You will perform preliminary evaluations, assist with scheduling and referrals, and maintain accurate health records in a HIPAA-compliant environment.

The role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and teamwork to ensure excellent patient experiences. A fast-paced clinic setting and eye-care-focused environment await.

Qualifications

• High School or GED qualification.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environment.
• PC skills to include MS Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and professionally collaborate with co-workers and patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations prior to exam with the Optometrist (dilation, topicals, diagnostic meds, Optomap, auto refractor, visual acuity).
• Conduct verbal patient interviews prior to visits to inform the Optometrist of issues.
• Schedule referrals and complete paperwork for ophthalmologists or follow-up visits.
• Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA and company/state policies.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications and treatment directions.
• Perform diagnostic testing using ophthalmic equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Document findings in EHR and assist with related clerical duties.
• Ensure schedule utilization via confirmations and recall outreach.
• Assist with contact lens insertion/removal and inventory management.
