Job summary

VisionWorks is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to ensure a great patient experience by preparing patients for exams, performing pre-exam testing, and guiding them through the process. You will liaise between patients and Optometrists, supporting both onsite and remote examinations.

The role requires at least one year of related experience, an optical/healthcare background preferred, and a willingness to travel between locations.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience.
• Optical or Healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.
• Training provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist onsite doctor with patient care and eye examinations and document results in EMR.
• Explain preliminary testing process to patients and conduct pre-testing accurately.
• Support remote eye exams by initiating video conferencing and coordinating remote tests.
• Transition patients to retail staff with doctor recommendations.
• Understand MVC plans and articulate plan benefits to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance following SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books, including no-shows and cancellations.
• Maintain patient flow to support doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions and triage ocular emergencies.
• Maintain complete patient records per Company standards.
• Instruct patients on contact lens use, care and handling.
• Place and stock diagnostic contact lens orders and notify patients when ready.
• Knowledge of contact lens brands/parameters; retrieve trials when requested.
• Maintain clean, safe environment and equipment; ensure nightly coverage.
• Participate in training and obtain required clinical certifications.
• Flexibility to travel to other locations as needed.
