Job summary

ABB Inc. is seeking a VFD Support Specialist to provide technical assistance on Low Voltage VFDs, 3-phase power, and control wiring. The role reports to the Technical Support Team Lead and operates in a hybrid model in New Berlin, WI with remote options across the United States.

You will troubleshoot, program drives, and coordinate with engineering, service, and sales to resolve issues while maintaining case documentation and staying informed on VFD updates and industry trends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 4 years of relevant Electrical/Technical experience OR associate's degree and 6 years of relevant Electrical/Technical experience OR High School Diploma/GED and 8 years of relevant Electrical/Technical experience.
• Knowledge of how Variable Frequency Drives work, REQUIRED.
• Must understand electricity principles and how to apply them to troubleshoot drives.
• Ability to respond to inquiries from customers and communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support via phone & email for VFD applications, assisting customers and field techs with commissioning, troubleshooting, and warranty evaluations.
• Assist customers with drive programming, parameter configuration, and integration with control systems.
• Collaborate with engineering, field service, sales, and product teams to resolve complex technical issues.
• Collaborate with the warranty team to initiate warranty replacements and labor authorization for repairs.
• Maintain detailed documentation of support cases using Salesforce Case Management and other tools.
• Stay current with VFD technologies, software updates, and industry trends.
