National Veterinary Associates offers a veterinary externship providing students with hands-on clinical experience. Externs will collaborate with veterinarians on patient treatment and participate in surgeries while enhancing their communication skills in a supportive environment. Opportunities for mentorship and a stipend for travel/living expenses are available.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is distinct, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externships at May Veterinary Northridge last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
