Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship durations at Bay Pines Veterinary Clinic typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Clinical year students are eligible for a $3,000 stipend at Bay Pines Veterinary Clinic!

Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may also be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
