A busy Mixed Animal Practice on Long Island offers externship opportunities for veterinary students. Participants will work with experienced staff to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of veterinary medicine including diagnostics and surgery while receiving a stipend for travel expenses. Join a committed team dedicated to pet care and professional growth.
We are a busy Mixed Animal Practice on the North Fork of Long Island, in a rural area surrounded by farms, wineries, and water sports. Established in 1994, our family-oriented staff includes 6 doctors, a large animal veterinarian who loves teaching, 7 licensed veterinary technicians, and a large support staff. We collaborate with animal shelters and have access to specialists like a board-certified surgeon and internist.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in patient histories, physical exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, surgical procedures, and medical management. They will also develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Clinical students are eligible for a $1,000 travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE for stipend details.
