National Veterinary Associates offers a hands-on externship for veterinary students at its hospitals. Participants will work closely with veterinarians to gather patient histories, assist in surgeries, and gain invaluable clinical experience while receiving a stipend for travel/living expenses during their externship.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Park Hills Animal Hospital typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here for stipend details. The stipend amount at Park Hills Animal Hospital is $500.
