NVA is offering a unique externship opportunity for veterinary students at Confederate Woods Veterinary Hospital. This hands-on program allows students to work closely with experienced veterinarians while gaining clinical skills essential for their future careers. Externship durations can range from two to eight weeks, with opportunities to receive stipends and travel support.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, they share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship durations at Confederate Woods Veterinary Hospital range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. We look forward to your application for an externship at Confederate Woods Veterinary Hospital.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details.
*An additional $500 travel stipend is offered for externships at this hospital.
