National Veterinary Associates is offering externship opportunities for veterinary students to gain practical clinical experience in a supportive environment. Students will work alongside Associate Veterinarians, learning vital skills such as patient interaction, diagnostics, and surgical assistance while also receiving potential stipends for living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students the opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
