Job summary

Carrix, Inc./SSA Marine, Inc. is seeking a Vessel Operations Manager in Long Beach, CA to supervise departmental personnel and coordinate daily vessel cargo handling operations.

You will also participate in hiring decisions and drive safety and process improvements to maximize profits. The role requires extensive experience in terminal operations, union labor management, and adherence to safety regulations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of leading terminal operations.
• 5+ years of managing union labor, including local union dispatching rules.
• Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
• Knowledge of cargo stowage and stability.
• Experience with computerized operating systems.
• Valid driver's license and TWIC card required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate personnel to ensure work aligns with organizational requirements.
• Conduct employee training on hazardous materials, orientations, quality improvements, and computer usage.
• Participate in grievance settlements.
• Implement schedule and policy changes.
• Drive continuous improvement in policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
• Monitor staff compliance with policies, safety rules, union contracts, and regulations.
• Promote safe work through safety audits and meetings with staff.
• Monitor spending to ensure expenses align with budgets.
• Investigate accidents to improve safety procedures.
• Analyze expenditures to develop plans and budgets to increase profits and improve services.
• Set operations policies and safety procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.
