Job summary

SSA Terminals, LLC in Long Beach, CA seeks a Vessel Operations Manager to supervise daily vessel cargo handling operations and related administrative tasks. Ideal candidates bring 8+ years in terminal operations leadership, strong safety knowledge, and experience managing union labor. A high school diploma is required, with a bachelor's degree preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience working in management; bachelor's degree preferred.
• 8+ years of leading terminal operations.
• 5+ years of managing union labor, including local union dispatching rules.
• Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
• Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability.
• Experience with computerized operating systems.
• Valid driver’s license and TWIC card required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all departmental personnel to plan, direct, and coordinate daily vessel cargo handling operations and administrative functions.
• Conduct employee training on hazardous material handling, orientations, quality improvements, and computer usage.
• Participate in grievance settlements and implement schedule and policy changes.
• Ensure continuous improvement of policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
• Monitor staff to ensure compliance with policies, safety rules, union contracts, and regulations.
• Promote safe work activities through safety audits and meetings with staff.
• Monitor expenses to align with budgets and develop plans to increase profits and improve services.
• Investigate accidents to improve safety procedures and outcomes.
• Analyze expenditures to inform budgets and profit-improvement plans.
• Set operations policies and safety procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.
