Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a Medical Assistant to blend clinical care with front-desk duties in a fast-paced urgent care setting. You will triage patients, collect vitals, perform venipuncture, and verify insurance while ensuring EMR accuracy and patient understanding of care and costs.

The role requires completion of an accredited MA program, active MA certification, 1+ year experience, and a BLS certificate; experience with Experity and Waystar is a plus.

Qualifications

• Completed accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification at hire (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
• Minimum 1 year experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain before starting).
• Urgent care or ER experience valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfortable with payer portals (Waystar).
• Venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, venipuncture and CLIA-waived testing.
• Register patients, verify eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, and maintain EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions with empathy.
• Participate in daily huddles, support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
