Job summary

CNA Insurance in Chicago, IL is seeking an Underwriter to assess risk and support the underwriting lifecycle for renewal and new business within limited authority. You will collaborate with underwriters, handle endorsements, manage renewals, and document files to ensure compliance and quality.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and typically three years of related experience. You will price, quote, and negotiate within authority, acting as a primary contact for producers and clients.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Property and Casualty underwriting including insurance products, policy processing procedures and documentation.
• Demonstrated time management and analytical abilities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and coach others.
• Customer service experience interacting with a wide variety of people daily.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and related business software.

Responsibilities

• Performs underwriting analysis and documentation to determine acceptability of risk for renewal and new business within authority.
• Handles endorsements within delegated authority and coordinates with underwriters.
• Manages renewal book within authority and advises on changes or attention points.
• Acts as liaison across CNA to resolve issues with billing, risk control, and underwriting guidance.
• Documents files for completeness and quality.
• Executes advanced pricing strategy and documents rationale.
• Completes quote proposals and negotiates with external partners.
• Serves as first-line contact to producers/customers, identifying up-sell opportunities.
• Assists in marketing CNA products through external partners and field visits.
• Acts as systems and workflow expert and a coach for others; provides feedback to underwriting partners.
• Keeps current on line of business strategy, state/territory issues, regulations and trends.
