Job summary

CNA is seeking an Underwriter to assess risk across renewal and new business within authority, partnering with underwriters and leveraging pricing tools. The role includes endorsements, renewals triage, and collaboration with billing, risk control and external partners.

You will document files, propose pricing rationales, and engage producers and customers to identify opportunities for account growth. This position supports hybrid work arrangements and requires knowledge of P&C underwriting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Property and Casualty underwriting including insurance products, policy processing procedures and documentation.
• Strong time management, and analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple tasks.
• Strong capability to advise and coach others.
• Demonstrated customer service experience and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people daily in person, via telephone and email.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.

Responsibilities

• Performs underwriting analysis and documentation to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards for renewal and new business within assigned Letter of Underwriting Authority.
• Handles endorsement requests within delegated authority. Refers endorsements outside of authority to underwriter with recommended action.
• Handles assigned renewal book within assigned authority and triages renewal applications and outlines next steps for accounts outside authority.
• Acts as liaison within the branch or CNA to resolve issues (billing, risk control, underwriting guidance).
• Documents assigned files ensuring completeness, compliance and quality (proposals, endorsements, cancellations).
• Executes on advanced pricing strategy on behalf of the Underwriter in compliance with regulatory and CNA strategies and documents pricing rationale.
• Completes quote proposals and negotiates with external partners within assigned authority.
• Serves as first-line contact to producers/customers on account-related matters and identifies upsell opportunities.
• Assists in marketing products and services through external partners and during field visits.
• Acts as a resource on systems and workflows, trains colleagues, and communicates feedback to underwriting partners.
• Keeps current on line of business strategy, state/territory issues, regulations and trends.
