Job summary

Wright Tree Service in Salt Lake City, UT is seeking experienced ground and climbing crews to prune, trim, and remove trees near energized power lines. You will operate climbing gear, rigging, and woodchippers under safety guidelines.

You must meet the prerequisites: 3 months in tree work, valid First-Aid/CPR, knowledge of ANSI standards, ability to read circuit maps, and willingness to travel extensively.

Qualifications

Minimum 3 months of experience on tree trimming/clearing crews or completed skills assessments.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
Valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Knowledge of trees, growth habits, and arboriculture near energized conductors.
Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards.
Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps.
Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269.
Ability to read and write job instructions and safety information.
Ability to obtain/maintain a valid CDL and DOT medical card depending on division.
Herbicide application certification or equivalent as required.
English reading, writing, and speaking proficiency.
Extensive travel, greater than 50%.
Ability to lift/maneuver up to 50 pounds infrequently and 30 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Tree and bucket rescue training.

Responsibilities

Prune, remove, and fell trees away from power lines.
Load limbs and logs onto vehicles and equipment.
Use climbing equipment, lift trucks, and pruners.
Cut branches and trunk sections aloft and lower them using rigging lines.
Fell trees or spars and split into manageable pieces.
Work near energized lines under supervision; may supervise others.
Apply herbicides and maintain records.
Educate less experienced employees on safety policies and OSHA regs.
Repair minor property damage and escalate as needed.
Feed debris into a woodchipper.
Set up warning signs and traffic controls to protect public and staff.
Inspect vehicles and equipment; report maintenance needs.
Drive and operate assigned vehicles; transport chippers.
Respond to emergencies and disasters; travel as needed.
Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
Maintain punctual attendance.

Prune, remove, and fell trees, limbs, and shrubs away from power lines
Load manageable limbs and logs onto vehicles and equipment
Use climbing equipment, lift trucks, safety belts, climbing lines, ladders, hand saws, ground saws, and pruners
Cut branches and trunk sections aloft and lower them using rigging lines
Fell trees or spars and split them into manageable pieces
Work near energized power lines under qualified supervision and potentially supervise non-qualified employees after meeting qualification prerequisites
Apply herbicides and growth regulators and maintain application records
Educate less experienced employees on company policies, safety practices, approved work methods, and OSHA regulations
Repair minor property damage and escalat issues to the General Foreperson
Feed brush and debris into a woodchipper
Set up warning signs, barriers, flags, hand signals, traffic controls, and protect the public and employees
Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections and routine maintenance; report specialized maintenance needs
Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment, including vehicles towing chippers or other trailing units
Respond to emergencies and natural disasters, including travel outside the regular work location
Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

Requirements

Minimum 3 months of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
Basic knowledge of trees, identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques for trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining, and removing trees near energized conductors
Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read and understand circuit maps
Knowledge of OSHA electric power generation, transmission, and distribution standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
Ability to determine nominal voltage, use insulated tools near energized parts, and distinguish exposed live parts
Ability to read and write job instructions and safety information
Ability to recognize poisonous plants
Ability to wear required PPE
Ability to work long hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, storm work, and call-out work
Knowledge and training in tree and bucket rescue
Ability to operate and service required tools and equipment
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, dependent on division and contract requirements
Herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by law and Wright Tree Service
