Provide support and coaching to the crew to achieve production goals
Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, approved work methods, customer requirements, and OSHA regulations
Allocate and prioritize work assignments as directed by the General Foreperson
Assist with safety training and pre-job briefings
Apply herbicides to stumps and brush and maintain application records
Obtain property-owner permission for tree trimming, removal, and herbicide application
Trim, remove, and fell trees using climbing equipment and ground tools near energized power lines
Conduct pre-inspections of work areas and identify hazards
Load vehicles and equipment with manageable limbs and logs
Repair minor property damage and elevate issues to the General Foreperson
Maintain customer and public relations through effective work and appropriate crew behavior
Maintain production records, timesheets, work orders, crew assignments, manhours, and cost controls
Interpret utility maps, drawings, and power-line symbols and assist with daily work-order assignments
Set up warning signs, barriers, flags, hand signals, traffic control devices, and direct traffic
Stage and clean up tools and equipment and maintain an orderly work area
Inspect and perform routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools
Coordinate crew response during emergencies and natural disasters, including travel outside the regular work location
Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment, including vehicles towing chippers or other trailing units
Maintain regular and punctual attendance and comply with applicable laws and company policies
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
- Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, dependent upon division and utility/contract requirements
- Herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by Wright Tree Service and applicable law
- Excellent leadership skills and ability to handle stressful situations and multitask
- Knowledge of trees, tree identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques
- Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
- Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read and understand circuit maps
- Knowledge of OSHA electric power generation, transmission, and distribution standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
- Ability to determine nominal voltage, use insulated tools near energized parts, and distinguish exposed live parts
- Ability to recognize poisonous plants and use required safeguards
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
- Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies and be subject to call-out work
- Knowledge and training to perform tree and bucket rescue
- Ability to operate and service required tools and equipment
- Ability to work independently and in a group
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions
- Required English proficiency: reading, writing, and speaking
- Extensive travel requirement: greater than 50%
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including climbing, lifting, carrying, and exerting up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in rugged terrain and around electrical, mechanical, chemical, environmental, and height-related hazards
