Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Supervisory Crew Lead to manage tree trimming and clearing crews in Minnesota. You will coach crews to hit production goals, identify hazards, and ensure OSHA/ANSI standards compliance, while coordinating access to job sites and maintaining records.

The role requires strong field leadership, safety training, and ability to travel ≥50% to diverse sites. A valid CDL, herbicide certification, and First Aid/CPR are expected credentials.

Responsibilities

Provide support and coaching to the crew to achieve production goals
Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, approved work methods, customer requirements, and OSHA regulations
Allocate and prioritize crew tasks under direction of the General Foreperson
Conduct safety training, pre-job briefings, crew assignments, and employee coaching
Apply herbicides to stumps and brush and maintain application records
Obtain property-owner permission and coordinate access to job sites
Trim, remove, and fell trees using climbing equipment and ground tools near energized power lines
Conduct work-area pre-inspections and identify hazards
Load vehicles and equipment with limbs and logs
Repair minor property damage and escalate issues to the General Foreperson
Maintain customer and public relations
Maintain crew production records, timesheets, work orders, manhours, assignments, and cost controls
Interpret utility maps, drawings, symbols, power-line types, voltages, and equipment; assist with daily work-order assignments
Set up warning signs, barriers, flags, hand signals, traffic control devices, and direct traffic
Stage and clean up tools and equipment and maintain an orderly work area
Inspect and perform routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools
Coordinate crew response during emergencies and natural disasters; travel outside the regular work location as needed
Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment
Maintain regular and punctual attendance and comply with applicable laws and company policies

Requirements

Minimum 3 years of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, as required
Herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by law and Wright Tree Service
Knowledge of trees, identification, growth habits, arboricultural techniques, and tree work near energized conductors
Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps
Knowledge of OSHA electric power standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
Ability to determine nominal voltage, use insulated tools near energized parts, and distinguish exposed live parts
Ability to perform tree and bucket rescue
Ability to operate and service required tools and equipment
Ability to work independently and in a group
Ability to wear required PPE
Ability to work long hours, overtime, emergency call-outs, holidays, weekends, and storm work
Ability to read, write, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions
English reading, writing, and speaking ability
Extensive travel required, greater than 50%
Ability to meet specified physical demands, including lifting, climbing, bending, standing, walking, and maneuvering equipment
Ability to work outdoors in rugged terrain and around electrical, mechanical, chemical, height, weather, and other hazards
