Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled Tree Trimmer for field work in Minnesota to prune, remove, and fell trees near energized power lines. You will load logs, operate climbing gear, and follow strict safety practices.

Applicants should have basic arborist knowledge, experience, and certifications in First-Aid/CPR, herbicide application, and CDL/DOT as required. Must be able to lift heavy loads and work long hours, including emergencies and storm response.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 months of experience in tree trimming or clearing crews.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
• Must have First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days
• Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
• Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps
• Ability to operate insulated tools near energized parts
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid CDL and DOT medical card
• English required for reading, writing, and speaking
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently

Responsibilities

• Prune, remove, and fell trees, limbs, shrubs, and trunk sections near power lines
• Load vehicles and equipment with manageable limbs and logs
• Use climbing equipment, powered trimmer lift trucks, safety belts, climbing lines, ladders, hand saws, ground saws, and pruners
• Cut and lower branches or trunk sections using rigging lines
• Fell trees or spars and split them into manageable pieces
• Work near energized power lines under qualified supervision and potentially supervise non-qualified employees after meeting qualification prerequisites
• Apply herbicides and growth regulators and maintain application records
• Follow and educate less experienced employees on company policies, safety practices, approved work methods, and OSHA regulations
• Repair minor property damage and escape issues to the General Foreperson
• Feed brush and debris into a woodchipper
• Set up warning signs, barriers, flags, hand signals, traffic controls, and direct traffic
• Cooperate with property owners, customers, and emergency personnel
• Inspect and perform routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools
• Report specialized maintenance or equipment needs to the General Foreperson
• Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment
• Remain on duty and travel outside the regular work location during emergencies or natural disasters
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance and comply with applicable laws and company policies

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 months of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
• Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
• Basic knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques for trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining, and removing trees near energized conductors
• Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
• Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read and understand circuit maps
• Knowledge of OSHA electric power generation, transmission, and distribution standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
• Ability to determine nominal voltage, properly use insulated tools near energized parts, and distinguish exposed live parts
• Ability to recognize poisonous plants and take appropriate safeguards
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
• Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies, including holidays, weekends, and storm work; subject to call-out work
• Knowledge of and training in tree and bucket rescue
• Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, as applicable
• Ability to drive a vehicle with an attached chipper or other trailing unit
• Maintain herbicide application certification or equivalent as required
• English required for reading, writing, and speaking
• Ability to perform the stated physical demands, including lifting and maneuvering up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently
• Ability to work outdoors in rugged terrain and around electrical, mechanical, chemical, height, weather, noise, vibration, and other hazards
