Jobtailor in Stillwater, MN seeks an experienced crew supervisor for tree trimming and right‑of‑way clearing. Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Must have First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CDL and DOT medical card as required.
  • Herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by Wright Tree Service and applicable law.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1, ANSI A300 and energized-conductor safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and coaching to the crew to achieve production goals.
  • Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with policy, procedures, OSHA regulations.
  • Allocate and prioritize job-site tasks under the direction of the General Foreperson.
  • Conduct safety training, pre-job briefings, crew assignments, and coaching.
  • Use herbicide equipment to treat stumps and brush and maintain records.
  • Obtain property-owner permission for tree trimming, removal, and herbicide application.
  • Communicate with customers and property owners about access, interruptions, and required work.
  • Trim, remove, and fell trees near energized power lines using climbing equipment & tools.
  • Set up traffic-control devices, direct traffic, and protect employees and the public.
  • Stage and clean up tools, inspect vehicles and equipment, and maintain an orderly area.
  • Coordinate crew response and hazard mitigation during emergencies and natural disasters.

Job description

  • Provide support and coaching to the crew to achieve production goals
  • Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, approved work methods, and OSHA regulations
  • Allocate and prioritize job-site tasks under the direction of the General Foreperson
  • Conduct safety training, pre-job briefings, crew assignments, and coaching
  • Use herbicide equipment to treat stumps and brush and maintain application records
  • Obtain property-owner permission for tree trimming, removal, and herbicide application
  • Communicate with customers and property owners about access, interruptions, and required work
  • Trim, remove, and fell trees using climbing equipment and ground tools near energized power lines
  • Conduct pre-inspections to identify work-area hazards
  • Load manageable limbs and logs onto vehicles and equipment
  • Repair minor property damage and escalate issues to the General Foreperson
  • Maintain customer and public relations through effective work and employee conduct
  • Maintain production records and reports, including timesheets, work orders, units, manhours, crew assignments, and costs
  • Interpret utility maps, drawings, and power-line symbols; assist with assigning daily work orders
  • Set up traffic-control devices, direct traffic, and protect employees and the public
  • Stage and clean up tools and equipment and maintain an orderly work area
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment and perform routine maintenance
  • Coordinate crew response and hazard mitigation during emergencies and natural disasters, including travel outside the regular work location
  • Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and comply with applicable laws and company policies
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, dependent upon division and utility/contract requirements
  • Herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by Wright Tree Service and applicable law
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to handle stressful situations and multitask
  • Knowledge of trees, identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques near energized conductors
  • Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps
  • Knowledge of OSHA electric power standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
  • Ability to determine nominal voltage, use insulated tools near energized parts, and distinguish exposed live parts
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions
  • Ability to recognize poisonous plants and use required PPE
  • Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies, holidays, weekends, and storm work; subject to call-out work
  • Knowledge and training in tree and bucket rescue
  • Ability to operate and service required tools and equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in a group
  • English required for reading, writing, and speaking
  • Extensive travel required, greater than 50%
  • Ability to meet substantial physical, outdoor, hazardous-environment, lifting, climbing, and visual-acuity requirements
