Job summary

Jobtailor in Minnesota seeks a seasoned Tree Crew Foreman to lead a trimming and clearing team on job sites. You will supervise fieldwork, ensure safety, manage equipment, and keep production records while upholding OSHA and ANSI standards.

The role requires CDL, strong leadership, and the ability to train crews, respond to emergencies, and manage schedules with travel as needed. Outdoor work in varied conditions is expected.

Qualifications

  • CDL required, with ability to maintain valid license and DOT medical card.
  • First-Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Herbicide application certification or equivalent.
  • Experience on tree trimming/clearing crews (min 3 years) or validated skill assessments.
  • Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269.

Job description

  • Provide support and coaching to the crew to achieve production goals
  • Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with company and OSHA requirements
  • Allocate and prioritize job-site work as directed by the General Foreperson
  • Conduct safety training, pre-job briefings, crew assignments, and coaching
  • Apply herbicides to stumps and brush and maintain application records
  • Obtain property-owner permission and coordinate access to job sites
  • Trim, remove, and fell trees using climbing equipment and ground tools near energized power lines
  • Conduct pre-inspections to identify work-area hazards
  • Load vehicles and equipment with manageable limbs and logs
  • Repair minor property damage and elevate issues when necessary
  • Maintain customer and public relations
  • Maintain production records, timesheets, work orders, crew assignments, manhours, and cost controls
  • Interpret utility maps, drawings, power-line symbols, voltages, and equipment
  • Set up traffic-control devices, direct traffic, and protect workers and the public
  • Stage and clean up tools and equipment
  • Inspect and perform routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools
  • Coordinate crew response during emergencies and natural disasters, including travel outside the regular work location
  • Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and comply with company policies and applicable laws
Requirements
  • CDL Required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, as required
  • Maintain herbicide application certification or equivalent as required
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to handle stressful situations and multitask
  • Knowledge of trees, identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques
  • Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
  • Ability to determine nominal voltage and use insulated tools near energized parts
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend job instructions
  • Ability to wear required PPE
  • Ability to work long hours, overtime, holidays, weekends, storm work, and call-out work
  • Knowledge and training to perform tree and bucket rescue
  • Ability to operate and service required tools and equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in a group
  • English language proficiency: read, write, and speak
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting and maneuvering loads up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Extensive travel required: greater than 50%
