Qualifications

Job description

  • Provide support and coaching to the crew to achieve production goals
  • Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with company, OSHA, and industry requirements
  • Allocate and prioritize work as directed by the General Foreperson
  • Conduct safety training, pre-job briefings, crew assignments, and coaching
  • Apply herbicides to stumps and brush and maintain application records
  • Obtain property-owner permission and coordinate customer access to job sites
  • Trim, remove, and fell trees using climbing equipment and ground tools
  • Conduct pre-inspections of work areas and identify hazards
  • Load vehicles and equipment with manageable limbs and logs
  • Repair minor property damage and elevate issues when necessary
  • Maintain customer and public relations
  • Maintain production records, timesheets, work orders, crew assignments, manhours, and cost controls
  • Interpret utility maps, drawings, power-line symbols, voltages, and equipment
  • Set up warning signs, barriers, flags, hand signals, traffic control devices, and direct traffic
  • Stage and clean up tools and equipment and maintain an orderly work area
  • Inspect and perform routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment and tools
  • Coordinate crew response during emergencies and natural disasters, including travel outside the regular work location
  • Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and comply with applicable laws and company policies
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Valid First-Aid and CPR cards, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s or commercial driver’s license and DOT medical card, as required
  • Herbicide application certification or equivalent, as required by law and company requirements
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to handle stressful situations and multitask
  • Knowledge of trees, arboricultural techniques, and work near energized conductors
  • Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps
  • Knowledge of OSHA electric power standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
  • Ability to determine nominal voltage and use insulated tools near energized parts
  • Ability to perform tree and bucket rescue
  • Ability to operate and service required tools and equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in a group
  • Ability to wear required PPE
  • Ability to work long hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, storm work, and call-out work
  • English reading, writing, and speaking required
  • Ability to perform extensive travel, greater than 50%
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of bending, climbing, lifting, carrying, and repetitive motions
  • Ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently
  • Ability to work outdoors on rugged terrain and around electrical, mechanical, chemical, height, weather, and other hazards
