Job summary

The Climber at Xylem Tree Experts is responsible for climbing, pruning, and removing trees while following safety rules and directives from the Foreperson. This role requires loading logs and debris, and operating various hand and power tools from the ground and aloft.

Applicants should have prior experience in vegetation management or related fields and be prepared for storm-related work. A High School diploma or equivalent is preferred, with a focus on safety and physical fitness.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate knowledge of knots, ropes, and rigging devices used in tree trimming and removal.
• Climb and descend trees using rope and safety saddle.
• Able to administer and implement emergency rescue techniques, including tree rescue and first aid.
• Familiar with electrical hazards and procedures near conductors and aerial rescue aloft.
• Capable of working at height in varied weather and staying safe.
• Physically fit with good balance and depth perception; hear instructions clearly.
• Willing to obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPR.

Responsibilities

• Climb, prune, and remove trees according to Foreperson’s directives.
• Load and unload trucks with logs, brush, and debris; feed brush into chipper.
• Work from ground using hand saws, pole saws, pruners, loppers, and gas-powered chain saws.
• Inspect and ensure proper working condition of all tools and equipment.
• Enforce safe practices, keep area clean, and communicate with coworkers.
• Perform storm-related duties as needed.
