Job summary

MKS Instruments is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support high‑tech production lasers, motion stages and vacuum products across North America. The role covers installation, alignment, diagnostics and on‑site service for laser systems and amplifier units.

The successful candidate will travel frequently, possess strong troubleshooting skills, and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams to ensure reliable operation and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 3+ years of practical experience including lasers and laser systems.
• Exceptional troubleshooting across electrical, mechanical and optical systems.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to self-manage and schedule time with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites across North America.

Responsibilities

• System installation, diagnose and repair of ultra-short pulse laser systems, optical alignment and installation and troubleshooting of electromechanical subassemblies.
• Maintain operational functionality of scientific and industrial laser equipment.
• Instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the system.
• Serves as company interface with customer and factory on administrative and technical matters.
• Determines methods and procedures on new assignments.
• Other duties may be assigned and could include shift, weekend and on-call coverage.
• USA and International travel is a requirement for customer support and for training on our products.
