American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Surgical IMCU/Stepdown unit requiring Level 1 trauma center stepdown experience and an active MA RN license.

Work in a 38-bed IMCU/Stepdown unit with post-operative cardiothoracic, vascular, neurosurgery, trauma and transplant patients. 12-hour shifts on a 7a-7:30p / 7p-7:30a rota, 36 hours weekly, with every other weekend and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• Active MA RN license required.
• 2+ years of recent acute care experience.
• Surgical stepdown experience at a Level 1 trauma center required.
• IMCU/Stepdown unit experience required.
• More than 1 previous travel assignment required.
• Able to read and interpret telemetry rhythm strips.
• Two professional references, one at manager level.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 38-bed Surgical IMCU/Stepdown unit.
• Care for post-operative cardiothoracic, vascular, neurosurgery, trauma and transplant patients.
• Maintain 1:3–1:4 (or 1:4–5) patient ratios; cover MedSurg as needed.
• 12-hour day/night shifts; 36 hours per week; rotate weekends/holidays.
• Use automated medication dispensing systems; provide intermediate care.

Requirements

• Active MA RN license required
• 2+ years of recent acute care experience
• Surgical stepdown experience required at a Level 1 trauma center
• IMCU/Stepdown unit experience required
• More than 1 previous travel assignment required
• Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry rhythm strips
• Tertiary facility experience preferred
• Must pass facility telemetry and critical care medication tests on day 1
• Two professional references required, including one at the manager level with a performance evaluation
• One reference evaluation must be within the last 12 months

Responsibilities

• Work in a 38-bed Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU/Stepdown)
• Patient population includes post-operative cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, and transplant patients transferred from PACU or SICU
• Average patient ratio of 1:3 to 1:4, or 1:4-5 when caring for MedSurg patients
• 12-hour shifts on a day/night rotation (7a-7:30p and 7p-7:30a) totaling 36 hours per week
• Requires working every other weekend and every other holiday
• Uses automated medication dispensing systems
• Provide intermediate-level nursing care to post-surgical patients requiring close monitoring
• Previous permanent staff at this facility are not eligible for consideration as travelers
• Must reside within 50 miles of the facility to be considered a local candidate
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position due to experience requirements
