Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) travel assignment in Alabama. Licensure must be AL or Compact, with BLS/ACLS; NIHSS preferred. Minimum 2 years of RN experience in telemetry/stepdown is required, with proficiency in cardiac monitoring and IV therapy.

The role includes night shifts 19:00–07:30, 4x12-hour days, every other weekend, with patient ratios of 1:5 and floating to Med/Surg as needed. Strong emergency response skills and PPE adherence are essential.

Qualifications

• Telemetry/PCU/Stepdown experience
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
• IV therapy and line care experience
• Rapid Response/Code team experience
• Able to manage cardiac drips and line care on daily basis

Responsibilities

• Work in PCU/Stepdown, MS/Tele unit settings
• Night shift 19:00-07:30; every other weekend
• Patient ratio 1:5
• Floating to MedSurg units as needed
• Manage cardiac drips and IV starts; Heparin protocols
• Provide cardiac monitoring and emergency response for stepdown-level patients
• Follow isolation precautions and PPE protocols
• Work holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day) and limited RTO of 7 days
• New travelers welcome; local candidates within 60 miles have lower rate

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring AL or compact licensure and strong cardiac monitoring experience.

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required
• Experience in Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings required
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care required
• Experience with Rapid Response/Code teams required
• Experience with respiratory care including nasal cannula and oxygen administration required
• Charting system experience required (any EMR)

Responsibilities

• PCU/Stepdown and MS/Tele unit settings
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:30), every other weekend
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Floating to MedSurg units required
• Manage cardiac drips without titration, Heparin protocols, and IV starts
• Responsible for cardiac monitoring and emergency response for stepdown-level patients
• Provide IV therapy, manage cardiac drips, and perform line care as part of daily duties
• Follow isolation precautions and PPE protocols
• Must work at least one of the following holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day
• Requested time off (RTO) limited to a maximum of 7 days
• Prior permanent employees of the facility are not eligible for travel assignments
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 60 miles are accepted at a lower rate
• Candidates with a pending license may be considered
