Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role in Tennessee. The position requires an active TN or compact RN license, BLS, and PCU experience within the last two years.

AHA ACLS and NIHSS are preferred, with telemetry and Level I trauma experience valued. Responsibilities include direct patient care in PCU/stepdown, maintaining monitoring and rapid response readiness, and contributing to clinical education alongside staff.

Qualifications

• Active TN or compact RN license required.
• AHA BLS certification required; AHA ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
• At least 1 year of documented PCU experience within the past 2 years required.
• Must complete Relias EKG testing within 72 hours of signing.
• Must complete drug test within 12-14 calendar days prior to start.
• Facial hair must be trimmed or removed to meet CDC fit testing guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the PCU/stepdown setting, including MS/Tele/DOU categories.
• Maintain patient monitoring, safety, and acute care interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with teaching hospital teams and clinical education activities.
• Participate in orientation and nonbillable online training modules.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring TN or compact RN licensure and at least 1 year of PCU experience within the past 2 years.

Requirements

• Active TN or compact RN license required
• AHA BLS certification required; AHA ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• At least 1 year of documented PCU experience within the past 2 years required
• Telemetry experience preferred
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Skills in respiratory care (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy, chest tubes) preferred
• Skills in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and rapid response/code team use preferred
• Experience with IV therapy, PICC line management, and central line care preferred
• Experience with neurological conditions (CVA, TBI, spinal cord injury, pre/post neurosurgery) preferred
• Experience with cardiovascular care (post cardiac angiogram, post MI, pre/post cardiac surgery) preferred
• Experience with renal/dialysis management preferred
• Experience with IV insulin protocols preferred

Responsibilities

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting within a hospital, also referred to as MS/Tele, DOU, IMC, or Stepdown
• Patient ratios of 1:5 on PCU and 1:7 on MST
• Day shift schedule (4x12 hours), 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
• 36/36, 36/48, and 48/48 schedules available
• Rotating weekend requirement
• No on-call responsibilities
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Provide direct patient care to progressive care/stepdown patients requiring close monitoring
• Participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care duties
• General orientation begins on Sundays with online CBL modules, averaging 4-5 non-billable hours
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply, though Level I trauma facility experience is preferred for first-time travelers
• Must reside at least 100 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
