Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position in Albuquerque, NM. The unit is a 55-bed cardiac stepdown at Heart Hospital with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio and requires cardiovascular experience and NM or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities include caring for post-angiogram, post-MI, and pre/post cardiac surgery patients, monitoring telemetry, and using Epic.

Qualifications

• Active NM or compact RN license required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (CPI preferred).
• 1-2 years RN experience with cardiovascular focus.

Responsibilities

• Care for cardiac stepdown patients in a 55-bed unit at Heart Hospital.
• Night shift 3x12 hours (18:30‑07:00) with potential 36 or 48 hours weekly.
• Rotating weekend coverage as needed and no on-call requirements.
• Uses Epic charting system.
• Provide care post angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac surgery.
• Manage respiratory needs (BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula).
• Wound care and IV insulin protocol administration when needed.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring cardiovascular experience and NM or compact RN licensure.

Requirements

• Active NM or compact RN license required (pending compact accepted if obtained prior to start)
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (CPI preferred)
• 1-2 years of RN experience required, with cardiovascular experience specifically needed
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry monitoring
• Skilled in cardiac drip management (titration preferred), heparin protocols, and IV therapy/phlebotomy
• Experience with central line and PICC line care preferred
• Experience with pre/post cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery care preferred
• Sheath removal experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Cardiac stepdown unit with a significant cardiac patient population located at the Heart Hospital
• 55-bed unit with a 1:4 patient ratio
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 18:30-07:00) with option of 36 or 48 hours per week
• Rotating weekend coverage required as needed
• Floating required to like units within scope based on facility needs, with brief orientation provided
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic charting system
• Provide care for cardiac stepdown patients including those post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac surgery
• Manage respiratory needs including BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
• Perform wound care/wound vac management and IV insulin protocol administration as needed
• Scrubs of any color accepted, logos not permitted
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered
• Former staff must wait at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Travel pairs or groups are not accepted
