Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Pediatric ICU RN with 18-24 months of PICU experience for a rotating shift assignment at a children’s acute care teaching hospital. The role requires active MO or compact RN licensure, BLS and PALS certifications, and proficiency with Epic charting.

Responsibilities include direct bedside care for critically ill pediatric patients in a Level I Trauma teaching hospital PICU, with a 1:2 patient ratio and rotating 3x12 hour shifts.

Qualifications

• Active MO or compact RN license required (compact must match permanent residence)
• BLS and PALS certifications required
• 18-24 months of PICU experience required
• Ventilator management, acute airway care, chest tube management, and tracheostomy care experience
• Central line care, PICC line management, IV therapy/phlebotomy
• CRRT and ECMO experience preferred
• ICP monitoring and management of gastric/NG tubes experience
• Epic charting experience required
• Comfortable caring for COVID-positive patients

Responsibilities

• Care for critically ill pediatric patients in PICU of a Level I trauma teaching hospital
• Rotating 3x12 hour shifts (days 0700–1930 and nights 1900–0730)
• Patient ratio 1:2
• Float within scope to NICU, CVICU, Stepdown, and PICU overflow floors
• May float to other floors for 1:1 RN observation
• Uses Epic EMR for documentation
• Provide direct bedside care to postoperative and critically ill pediatric patients
• First-time travelers welcomed; local candidates within 75 miles not accepted

• Level I Trauma, post-op, respiratory failure, liver transplant, sepsis, and post-BMT experience preferred
• Experience with ventilator management, acute airway care, chest tube management, and tracheostomy care
• Experience with central line care, PICC line management, and IV therapy/phlebotomy
• CRRT and ECMO experience preferred
• ICP monitoring and management of gastric/NG tubes experience
• Epic charting experience required
• Comfortable caring for COVID-positive patients
• Pending license accepted at time of consideration

Responsibilities

• Work in the PICU of a children's acute care, Level I Trauma teaching hospital with 40 beds on the unit
• Pediatric ICU patient population including post-op, respiratory failure, liver transplant, sepsis, and post-BMT cases
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Rotating 3x12 hour shifts, days (0700-1930) and nights (1900-0730)
• 6 weekend shifts required during the schedule period
• No on-call requirements
• Float within scope to NICU, CVICU, Stepdown, and PICU overflow floor (which may include low-acuity med-surg patients)
• May float to other floors to provide 1:1 RN Assist observation for safety and behavioral health purposes
• Uses Epic EMR
• Provide direct bedside care to critically ill pediatric patients, including those requiring bedside surgeries and procedures
• Unit does not treat burn patients (stabilization only) or cardiac/heart cases
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Scrub attire is any color or facility-branded T-shirts/jackets permitted
• Maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Returning travelers must complete a 3-month break after an 18-month assignment period
• Former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any affiliated facility as a traveler
