Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU assignment in California. Requires active CA RN license (standard or compact), BLS and PALS, and a minimum of 2 years PICU experience. Will work nights (7pm–7am) with every other weekend, float to pediatrics/burn units, and handle complex pediatric diagnoses.

Familiarity with Cerner EMR, Spacelab telemetry, and Medfusion pumps is expected. Navy blue scrubs and 2 shifts of PICU/or burn orientation are part of the rotation.

Qualifications

Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand.
Current certifications: BLS and PALS.
Minimum 2 years PICU experience.
Experience with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and HFNC.
Experience titrating drips such as insulin, sedatives, heparin, and electrolyte replacements.

Responsibilities

Acute care PICU unit with 8 beds and census around 2.
Patient ratio of 1 to 2.
Night shift 7p–7a with every other weekend.
Charge nurse rarely required and no nurse aide support.
Uses Cerner EMR; reads own telemetry strips on Spacelab monitors.
Uses medfusion pumps; float to general pediatrics and burn unit (non-burn pediatric care) with travelers first to float.
Standby call possible if census is low on a scheduled shift.
Care for pediatric patients with diagnoses including respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, suicide attempts, overdoses, poisoning, and DKA.
Pediatric hospitalist/intensivist 24/7 with 24/7 RT and pharmacy support.
Unit-specific orientation includes 2 PICU shifts, 1 pediatrics shift, 1 burn shift.
Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 holidays.
Navy blue scrubs required.
First-time travelers are not considered.

Pediatric hospitalist/intensivist in house 24/7 along with 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support
Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in PICU, 1 shift in peds, and 1 shift in burn (for pediatric patients)
Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 holidays
Navy blue scrubs required
