Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a combined Pre-Op/PACU assignment in California. Requires 2+ years of ER, ICU, or PACU experience and an active CA RN license. Travel nursing experience is required; first-time travelers are not accepted.

Responsibilities include a busy 24-bed unit with 12 rooms, night shifts 3x12 hours (1800-0630), Fri-Sun, and potential float within Surgical Services. Proficiency with EPIC and call 2–3 shifts per month are required.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS.
• Minimum 2 years ER/ICU/PACU experience.
• Must have Pre-Op and PACU experience; Phase I PACU.
• Travel nursing experience; no first-time travelers.

Responsibilities

• Combined Pre-Op and PACU unit within Surgical Services.
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (1800-0630), Friday through Sunday.
• Care for surgical patients in pre- and post-operative settings.
• May float within Surgical Services to other areas as needed.
• Uses Omnicell medication dispensing system.
• Take call 2-3 shifts per month with 30-60 min callback.
• May cover IR, EP, Cath Lab, CT/MRI when needed.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a combined Pre-Op/PACU position requiring 2+ years of ER, ICU, or PACU experience and an active CA RN license.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Minimum 2 years of experience in ER, ICU, or PACU required
• Critical care experience required
• Must have both Pre-Op and PACU experience
• Phase I PACU experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers accepted
• Proficient in EPIC charting system
• Skilled in dysrhythmia recognition/management, IV starts, airway assessment, and pain assessment/management
• Able to obtain operative/procedural consent and perform straight urinary catheterization (male and female)
• Level I and Level II Trauma Center experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Combined Pre-Op and PACU unit within Surgical Services
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (1800-0630), Friday through Sunday
• Busy unit with majority of cases scheduled as add-ons
• 12 rooms, 24 beds with average daily census of 35-50 patients
• Patient population includes pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics (primarily adult to geriatric)
• Surgical services include bariatrics, cardiothoracic, general, GYN, GYN-Onc, neuro, spine, ortho, plastics, podiatry, urology, and vascular
• Busy robotic surgery program (6 robots) and active ortho total joint program
• Required to take call 2-3 shifts per month with a 30-60 minute callback requirement unless working an off-shift schedule
• May float within Surgical Services to Pre-Op, Post-Op, outpatient ortho surgery, or same day surgery center
• Uses Omnicell medication dispensing system
• Unit staffed 24/7 and supported by surgical techs
• Care for surgical patients in both pre-operative and post-operative settings
• All surgical patients are assessed by the pre-op RN
• ICU, open heart, and neurosurgical patients typically recover in ICU unless ICU is at capacity
• May occasionally cover IR, EP, Cath Lab, or CT/MRI patients during off-hours or when recovery area is full
• Royal blue scrubs provided
• Requests for time off are limited to 2 per contract and must be submitted with the initial profile
• No time off permitted within the first two weeks of the assignment
• Travelers expected to work every other holiday, with preference for coverage on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
• Former facility employees must have been separated for 2+ years to be eligible to return as a traveler
• Only one contract extension allowed; time off equal to the combined length of the original contract and extension must be taken before returning to this facility as a traveler
