Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a PACU RN for a 9-week contract requiring KY or compact RN licensure and rotating weekend call.

The position involves postoperative care in a 16-bed PACU adjacent to the OR, supporting multiple surgical services, and a day shift with weekend call responsibilities. BLS, ACLS/PALS within 6 months, and ADN/ASN with BSN preferred are required.

Qualifications

• Active unrestricted RN license in KY or compact state.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS and PALS certifications required within 6 months of hire.
• ADN or ASN required, BSN preferred.
• No PACU experience required, though previous nursing experience preferred.
• Ability to assess age-specific patient safety issues and implement appropriate safety devices.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 16-bed PACU adjacent to the OR providing postoperative care to patients of all ages and acuities.
• Supports general, vascular, orthopedic, urologic, ophthalmologic, oral/maxillofacial, plastic, gynecologic, cardio-thoracic, ENT, neurosurgical, dental, and bariatric surgical services, plus pain management and bronchoscopy patients.
• Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts per week from 0800-2000.
• Call required every 3rd weekend (12 hours each day) plus six weeknight calls (2000-0700) within a six week period.
• Provide direct postoperative patient care including assessment, monitoring, and discharge coordination.
• Educate patients and families on procedures, treatments, and discharge planning.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team and delegate tasks appropriately to support staff.
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement activities and initiatives.
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role.
