Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an RN for an Outpatient Oncology Practice in New Haven, CT. The role requires 2+ years of oncology experience and a CT/compact RN license.

It is a travel position with guaranteed hours in a 4x10 schedule, using Epic for charting and serving a designated outpatient oncology care team. Candidates should have travel nursing experience, BLS, and be prepared for possible cross-specialty assignments within scope.

Qualifications

• Active CT or compact RN license required prior to start date.
• Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience (1.5 years considered with Level I trauma or travel experience).
• Previous travel nursing experience required.
• BLS certification required.
• Chemotherapy/Biotherapy (ONS/ONCC) certification preferred.
• Ambulatory and phone triage experience required.
• Experience with care coordination, patient education, and electronic in-basket messaging required.
• 1 professional reference required.

Responsibilities

• Outpatient ambulatory oncology clinic setting (no infusion services at this clinic).
• Supports a designated outpatient oncology care team.
• Day shift schedule, 4x10-hour shifts from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
• May float between specialties within scope.
• Uses Epic for charting.
• Guaranteed hours included in contract.
• Manage and respond to patient messages through the electronic in-basket system.
• Provide patient education related to oncology diagnoses, treatments, medications, and follow-up care.
• Perform phone triage and determine appropriate escalation or follow-up.
• Coordinate tests, referrals, appointments, and other aspects of the care plan.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary oncology team to ensure continuity of care.
• Facility is a Level I Trauma Center and large academic medical center.
• Royal blue scrub color required.
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted.
• COVID vaccine and booster required, with religious or medical exemptions only.
• RTO exceeding 7 days requires additional approval.
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside more than 75 miles from the facility.
• Former staff must have a 2-year separation before returning as a traveler.
• First-time travelers not accepted for this role.
