Job summary

American Traveler is actively seeking an experienced Operating Room RN with 2+ years of charge experience for a 13-week travel assignment.

The ideal candidate will hold an active PA or Compact RN license and a current BLS certification, with Cerner charting experience and a strong background across gynecology, orthopedics, neurology, general surgery, urology, ENT, thoracic, podiatry, endoscopic and robotic procedures.

Qualifications

• Active PA or Compact RN license required.
• BLS certification (AHA only) required.
• Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience.
• Previous charge nurse experience required.
• Cerner charting experience required.
• Community hospital experience preferred.
• Multi-specialty OR experience across gynecology, orthopedics, neurology, general surgery, urology, ENT, thoracic, podiatry, endoscopic and robotic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate in hospital OR with 1:1 patient care.
• Rotate shifts 4x10s and 5x8s; 6:30am-3:00pm or 6:30am-5:00pm with call.
• Rotate schedule weekly between 4x10s and 5x8s.
• Floating within hospital and to sister facilities within 10 miles.
• Use Cerner EMR for charting.
• Scrub and circulate for a wide variety of procedures.
• Administer blood products, monitor sedation and cardiac status, handle specimens.
• Adhere to infection control, laser safety, radiation safety and Universal Protocol.

Requirements

• Active PA or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification required (AHA only)
• Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Proficiency across multiple surgical specialties including gynecology, orthopedics, neurology, general surgery, urology, ENT, thoracic, podiatry, endoscopic, and robotic procedures
• Experience with equipment such as electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, Hana table, and Steris systems
• Two supervisor references preferred
• SSN, DOB, RTO, and driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Operating Room unit in a hospital setting
• 1:1 patient ratio
• Rotating shifts between 4x10s and 5x8s, scheduled 6:30am-3:00pm or 6:30am-5:00pm, with call shifts included
• Schedule rotates weekly between 4x10s and 5x8s as needed
• Floating required within the hospital and to sister facilities within a 10-mile radius if needed
• Cerner EMR used for charting
• Scrub and circulate for a wide variety of surgical procedures across multiple specialties
• Perform professional nursing duties including blood/blood product administration, conscious sedation monitoring, cardiac monitoring, and specimen handling
• Adhere to infection control, laser safety, radiation safety, and Universal Protocol (time-out) procedures
• Participate in emergency management protocols including code response, fire safety, and malignant hyperthermia procedures
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility based on driver's license address
• Local candidates not accepted
• Candidates must be willing to float within the hospital and to sister facilities within a 10-mile radius
• Must be available to work every other holiday
• Fingerprinting, drug screen, and required labs must be completed within 24-48 hours of signing
• Approximately 1 hour of pre-start training modules required before entering the facility
• Former permanent employees not eligible unless separated for at least 2 years
• Travelers limited to a cumulative one-year assignment within the health system, followed by a required two-year break before returning
• Travel pairs may be accepted based on facility need, though matching schedules cannot be guaranteed
• First-time travelers not specified as accepted or excluded
