Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position in California. Requires NRP certification, active CA RN license, BLS, and at least 2 years of NICU experience. Travel-friendly role with 12-hour day shifts and self-scheduling.

Responsibilities include care of neonates from 23 weeks gestation, use of high frequency oscillators and ventilators, and occasional floating to Peds and Nursery. Weekends/holidays required; supportive team with 24/7 RT and pharmacy backup.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license required.
• BL S and NRP certifications required.
• Minimum 2 years of recent NICU experience.
• Experience with HFOV and ventilators required.
• Cooling experience preferred.
• Comfort handling complex neonatal cases; ECMO not required.

Responsibilities

• Care for neonates 23 weeks gestation and up in a Level 3 NICU.
• Manage patient ratios from 1:1 to 1:4 across NICU/Peds/PICU as assigned.
• Utilize HFOV, Draeger vents, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula.
• Chart in Cerner EMR and collaborate with neonatology as available.
• Participate in 12-hour day shifts with self-scheduling and on-call.
• Float to Nursery, Peds, and occasional Mother Baby per need.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position requiring NRP certification and at least 2 years of recent neonatal ICU experience.

• PALS and STABLE certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent NICU experience required
• Experience with high frequency oscillators and ventilators required
• Cooling experience preferred
• Comfortable managing complex neonatal cases, though ECMO-level experience not required

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in a Level 3 NICU with 21 beds, alongside a Peds unit (8 beds) and future PICU (4 beds)
• Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 in NICU, 1:1 to 1:4 in Peds, and 1:1 to 1:2 in PICU
• Cares for neonates from 23 weeks gestation and above, including feeders/growers and cooling cases
• Utilizes high frequency oscillators, Draeger vents, CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula
• Cerner EMR used for charting
• 12-hour day shifts from 7a-7p with self-scheduling
• Every other weekend required, with 2 major holidays
• Charge nurse typically assigned in NICU
• No nurse aides on the unit
• RT and pharmacy support available 24/7, no IV team
• Standby call required occasionally during low census
• Floating required to Nursery and Peds, and occasionally Mother Baby for those with applicable experience
• Unit-specific orientation includes 2-3 shifts in NICU and 2 shifts in Peds
• Provide direct nursing care to neonatal and pediatric patients within a Level 3 NICU
• Navy scrub color required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply since prior travel experience is not required
• Collaborate with an in-house neonatologist, though not present 24/7
