Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Medical Surgical Float position in North Carolina, requiring 1 year of experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

The role involves floating across medical-surgical units, night shifts (3x12s/4x12s), every third weekend, and a 1:6 patient ratio. BLS is required; ACLS if CCU experience is relevant. References are required.

Qualifications

• Active RN license NC or Compact
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required if working in CCU
• 1 year of experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience in teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II preferred
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line blood draws, and PICC line management preferred
• Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomy management preferred
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry experience preferred
• Wound care and isolation precautions experience preferred
• References required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Float between medical surgical departments, excluding CCU, psych, and rehab units
• Night shift schedule alternating 3x12s and 4x12s, 7PM-7A
• Jack/Jill schedule with 4 shifts one week and 3 shifts the next
• Required to work every third weekend
• 1:6 patient ratio
• Provide med/surg nursing care across multiple hospital units as part of the Internal Resource Team
• Reports to the Director of the Internal Resource Team
• Scrub color requirement: grape purple
• Local candidates accepted at the same bill rate
• Facility does not allow current or former staff to return as travelers
• Travelers must complete lab work within 72 hours of signing the contract
