Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is hiring a Med/Surg Float RN for a 24-bed adult overflow unit. It requires at least 1 year in the specialty and an active MO or Compact RN license.

The role features 3x12 hour day shifts, every other weekend, and mandatory floating to Med/Surg and Tele units at a teaching hospital. Travel experience is required; Cerner charting is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Active MO or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration.
• BLS required, ACLS preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience required in the Med/Surg specialty.
• Previous travel nursing experience is required.
• Teaching hospital experience preferred.
• Trauma Level I/II experience preferred.
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line care, PICC line management, and IV starts/maintenance.
• Respiratory support skills including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube care, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy care preferred.
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and telemetry preferred.
• Wound care experience preferred.
• Cerner charting experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Float within the Medical Surgical service line at a teaching hospital.
• Serve adult overflow unit with multiple admitting physician teams (Neurology, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Oncology).
• Care for adults 16+ with diabetes, CHF, COPD, renal disease, fractures, and neurological deficits.
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:5–7.
• Work day shift 3x12 hours, 7:00am–7:30pm.
• Commit to every-other-weekend scheduling.
• Mandatory floating to Med/Surg and Tele units.
• Perform IV therapy, lab draws, nasogastric tube care, wound care, and assist with bedside procedures and conscious sedation.
• Take on charge duties as needed.
• Contracts of 36 or 48 hours available.
• Work in a 24/7 facility with exposure to contagious illnesses.
• 50% holiday coverage required on contract.
• Shifts may rotate; inclement weather may require work.
• Floating includes Patient Observer/Sitter duties when needed.
• Local candidates 51–74 miles may be offered local rate; within 50 miles not eligible.
• RTO up to 10 days; none in first week due to orientation.
• First-time travelers not accepted for this role.

• Cares for adult patients 16 and older with diagnoses including diabetes, CHF, COPD, renal disease, orthopedic fractures, and neurological deficits
• Patient ratios of 1:5-7

• Performs general floor care including IV therapy, lab draws, nasogastric tube care, wound care, and assists with bedside procedures and conscious sedation
• Charge duties required as needed
• 36 or 48 hour contracts available
• Works in a 24-hour, 365-day healthcare facility with routine exposure to patients with contagious illnesses
• 50% holiday coverage required on contract
• Rotating shifts and work during inclement weather may be required
• Floating is mandatory, including serving as a Patient Observer/Sitter when needed
• Local candidates residing 51-74 miles from the facility may be offered a local rate
• Candidates residing within 50 miles are not eligible for consideration
• Max RTO of 10 days, with none permitted during the first week due to orientation
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
