Job summary

American Traveler, LLC is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment in Norfolk, Nebraska. The position requires at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience and EPIC proficiency, along with active RN license (NE or Compact) and BLS.

You will work 3x12-hour day shifts on a 38-bed unit, with 1:5–6 nurse-to-patient ratios, participate in bedside shift reports, and collaborate with CNAs and the care team. Travel housing and licensure reimbursements are offered.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required.
• CPI certification required.
• Minimum 1 year Med/Surg experience.
• EPIC documentation experience required.
• Experience with bedside shift report required.
• Must be able to manage 1:6 patient ratio and 3x12-hour shifts.
• Must reside within 45 miles of the facility.

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg unit on acute care 38-bed facility.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5–6 days and nights; must handle 6.
• Patient population includes pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, resp. virus.
• Surgical patients include ortho, general, spinal, urology.
• Titrate drips and manage set-rate drips (Heparin, Bumex, Lasix).
• Telemetry reading supported by cardiac tech; RNs not required to read strips.
• Nursing supervisor on-site 24/7; charge nurses on days and nights.
• Aides assist with accuchecks and vital signs.
• RT support 24/7 for trach, CPAP, BiPAP, HF patients.
• EPIC EMR used for charting.
• Schedule: 3x12-hr day shifts; may float to IMCU.
• Weekend/holiday coverage as needed; standby possible.
• Participate in bedside shift report and proactive rounds.
• Collaborate with CNAs and care team; call lights support.
• Unit orientation: 1.5 shifts.

• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required

• Must be able to take a 1:6 patient ratio
• Should have experience with the shift type being submitted for (days vs nights)

Responsibilities

• Med/Surg unit in an acute care, Trauma Level 3 facility with 38 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 days and nights, must be able to take 6
• Patient population includes adults and older teens with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory virus
• Surgical patient population includes ortho (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology cases
• RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, and manage set-rate drips such as Bumex and Lasix
• Cardiac tech available 24/7, RNs not required to read own telemetry strips
• Nursing supervisor on-site 24/7, two charge nurses on days and one on nights who do not typically take patients
• Nurse aides present with 1:8-1:10 ratios, perform accuchecks and vital signs
• Respiratory therapy support available 24/7 for trach, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow patients
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• Schedule consists of 3x12-hour day shifts
• May float to IMCU for Med/Surg assignments
• Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
• Low census call/standby may apply
• Participate in bedside shift report and proactive patient rounding
• Collaborate as part of a care team, assisting with call lights and working closely with CNAs
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 1.5 shifts
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility
• Cancellation policy allows up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• No self-scheduling for travel RNs, though blocked scheduling may be accommodated at times
