Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift in Colorado. Active CO or compact RN license and at least 2 years of RN experience are required. BLS and ACLS certifications must be current.

Experience in rural hospital settings and comfort with telemetry are highly valued. The role includes a 14-bed Med/Surg unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, and duties such as titrating drips, charting in EPIC, and potential floating within the zone.

Qualifications

• Current BLS and ACLS certification required.

• BSN not required for this position.
• Experience with telemetry monitoring is preferred.
• Driver's license required for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Care for Med/Surg patients in a 14-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Manage care for CHF, hypertension, chest pain workups, COPD, pneumonia, GI issues, and renal conditions.
• Titrate drips including analgesics, anticoagulants, and antihypertensives.
• Read telemetry strips and escalate concerns to physicians as needed.
• Utilize respiratory equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, vents) and chart in EPIC.
• Self-schedule the night shift with block scheduling; flex as needed.
• Float as required within the assigned zone; some shifts may be canceled.

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring a CO or compact RN license and 2+ years of experience.

Requirements

• Active CO or compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required for this position
• Experience or comfort working in a rural hospital setting with lower resources and typically lower patient volumes is ideal
• Must be comfortable independently reading telemetry strips and escalating concerns
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 14 beds and a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Patient population includes CHF, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, GI bleeding, and acute renal failure
• RNs titrate drips including analgesics, anticoagulants, and antihypertensives
• No dedicated tele techs; RNs must be comfortable reading their own telemetry strips and escalating concerns to a physician
• Uses respiratory therapy equipment including CPAP, BiPap, high flow, and vents
• Charting is done in EPIC
• Night shift schedule with self-scheduling and block scheduling options
• Required to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday coverage required
• Floating required, with travelers typically floated first, as determined by the nurse manager and department needs
• Call or standby requirements determined by the nurse manager
• Charge nurse/house supervisor support is available and the charge nurse may take a patient assignment
• Nurse aide support is provided once the unit reaches 9 patients
• Provide direct patient care for a Med/Surg patient population including cardiac, respiratory, and gastrointestinal cases
• Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Clinicians must be in-state for the week of orientation, though some first-day modules may be completed remotely
• Unit/department-specific orientation date and location will be assigned during orientation week
• Travelers hired into this position are expected to float within their assigned zone and are responsible for securing housing that allows them to meet this requirement
• Facility can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
