Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for night shift to join a hospital team. The role requires Epic charting proficiency and at least 2 years of Med/Surg experience.

The ideal candidate will hold an NM or Compact RN license and a BLS certification. Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, emergencies, and patient care with a 4x12 schedule and 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio.

Qualifications

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift role requiring 2 years of experience and Epic charting proficiency.

Requirements

• Active RN license (NM or Compact) required, pending license accepted if obtained prior to start
• BLS certification required
• 2 years of experience preferred
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, port access/management, peripheral line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tubes, oxygen administration, and nasal cannula
• Experience with colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube care and management
• Experience managing CVA patients
• Experience administering Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Experience with surgical drains
• Experience with telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote) and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• Experience with total joint replacement care

Responsibilities

• Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting
• 1:6 patient ratio
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), with 36 or 48 hour options available
• Weekend shifts required
• Float required to like units within scope based on facility needs
• Epic charting system experience required
• Provide comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care including cardiac monitoring and emergency response support
• Brief unit orientation provided for float assignments
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible; locals not accepted
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• No travel pairs or groups accepted
• RTO must be requested at time of consideration, with a maximum of 4 days auto-approved and none during the first week of orientation
