Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a night shift in Charleston, SC. Requires SC or compact RN license, and at least 1 year of RN experience with EPIC charting.

The unit supports neurology, stroke, epilepsy monitoring, and spine programs; 3x12 night shifts, local travel considerations, and weekend/holiday rotations apply.

Qualifications

• Active SC or Multi-State/Compact RN license in hand.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required.
• EPIC charting experience required.
• Experience with neurological/psychiatric patients and CVA preferred.
• Pre/post neurosurgery experience preferred.
• Skilled in isolation precautions/PPE, oxygen administration, IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care, cardiac monitoring, and rapid response/code team participation.

Responsibilities

• 23-bed inpatient General Neurology/Medical Stroke/Epilepsy Monitoring Unit for adult and geriatric patients.
• Private patient rooms, including one reverse air flow room and nine rooms hard-wired for continuous epilepsy monitoring.
• Cares for patients with Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular diseases, seizures, and medically managed strokes.
• Supports Comprehensive Spine Center and Comprehensive Epilepsy Center programs.
• Manages overflow of neurosurgical and spine surgery patients from sister units.
• 3x12 Night shift schedule, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
• Patient ratio of 1:5.
• Required to work 4-5 weekend shifts per 4-week period plus holiday rotation.
• Floating required within scope to like units or sister facilities.
• Provides direct care for neurological, stroke, and epilepsy monitoring patients.
• May be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June through November, peak August-September).
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position.
• Previous MUSC perm or PRN staff must be separated from the system for 1 year before returning as a traveler.
• Local candidates will be considered, though non-local candidates are prioritized.
• Candidates residing within 60 miles are considered local for pay rate purposes.
• All required time off must be submitted at time of consideration.
