The role covers a 20-bed unit with 1:5–6 ratios, telemetry, and 24/7 charge nurse support. Expect rotation and orientation, with housing and travel reimbursements as benefits.

Qualifications

BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certification required, with NIHSS in hand at time of consideration.
ACLS preferred.
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
Strong overall neuro nursing experience required.
Proficiency with G-tubes required.
Recent Epic EMR experience required.

Responsibilities

Manage a 20-bed Neuro Med/Surg unit with 1:5-6 patient ratios.
Care for neuroscience, DBS, stroke, seizures, and post-op spine patients.
Utilize Epic EMR and operate on 12-hour night shifts (7p–7:30a).
Weekend night rotation: Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon.
Charge nurse available 24/7; unit has nurse aides 1:7–10.
Telemetry present; RNs not required to read strips; RT available 24/7 for vents.
Titration performed per physician order in step-down setting; floating to 7E/7W/7NE/10E first.
Provide direct patient care on a 20-bed unit; one shift of unit-specific orientation; holiday rotation.

Patient ratios of 1:5-6 for floor patients
Patient population includes neurosciences, DBS, stroke, seizures, surgical/post-op spine, and neurological disorders
Uses Epic EMR
12-hour night shifts, 7p-730am
Weekend night rotation: Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday
Charge nurse available 24/7
Nurse aides on unit with 1:7-10 ratios
Telemetry present on unit, but RNs are not required to read strips (verification documented in Epic)
RNs not required to manage vents; RT available 24/7 for floor vents
Titration only performed per physician order in a step-down setting
Floating required, first priority to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E, then hospital-wide if needed
Provide direct patient care to neuroscience and post-surgical spine patients on a 20-bed unit
One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
Holiday rotation coverage expected
Scrub colors limited to any combination of white and royal blue
Three shifts in a row may be allowed but is not guaranteed; flexibility required
Candidates must disclose any background check hits at the time of consideration
Local candidates not accepted; radius rule of 50 miles for this facility
Previous WVU Medicine travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one year without a 2-year break (cumulative experience applies)
