Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in California. Requires at least 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience and Cerner proficiency. CA RN license, BLS, and ability to read EKG strips with telemetry are essential.

Travel-friendly, per diem and housing support provided. Responsibilities include 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), 55-bed Med/Surg unit, patient care with a 5:1 ratio, and 24/7 access to hospital resources.

Qualifications

• Must hold an active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) and BLS certification.
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience for night shift.
• Cerner EMR experience and ability to read EKG strips with telemetry.”

Responsibilities

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 55 beds.
• Patient ratio of 5 to 1.
• Charge Nurse does not take patients, supported by 1–3 PCTs.
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p–7a), every other weekend.
• Floating between Med/Surg units with a designated home base unit.
• Floor-specific orientation consists of one shift on each unit (2 total).
• Uses Cerner EMR.
• Hospitalist/Intensivist, IV & PICC team, RT, and Pharmacy available 24/7.
• Provide direct patient care on a fast-paced Med/Surg unit.
• Work into the permanent staff holiday rotation.
• Navy scrub color required.
• Strong, humble, and positive attitude valued by the unit.
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year.
• PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable.
• Interview process includes a clinical team interview followed by a second interview with the unit.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of recent, solid Med/Surg experience required for night shift
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Must be comfortable reading EKG strips and working with telemetry patients
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
